The co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner Unilever prevented the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, who established the company with Jerry Greenfield, disclosed that he will personally create this new flavor as part of a personal collection showcasing issues the company has been barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Parent Company

This latest development deepens the continuing conflict between the internationally recognized ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods giant which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted that Unilever along with its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company from "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol of Support

Mr. Cohen announced through social media that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas for the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has become an emblem for solidarity with Palestinians because of its coloration, that mirror those of the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism plus Recent Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

The new product line will be developed under Ben's Best, the activist dessert company that originally created several years back for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

The founder indicated how he will develop other ice cream flavors that address concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

This development comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at the company recently, following decades of involvement, citing worries that the company's autonomy was compromised following corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen remarked how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence ensuring that the company can fulfill the social mission, the values that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he explained to media outlets.
