Former Doctor Charged with Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician stands accused of carrying out assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor stated, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Prosecutors said the 45 charges include:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
