A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
